Palm Beach girls tennis first team, second team, honorable mention and coach of the year
FIRST TEAM
Jackie Daynovsky, American Heritage-Delray senior: The team captain and Washington and Lee University signee was 16-3 in singles was four-time district and three-time regional champion; was overall runner-up at states in singles and doubles this year and runner-up in state doubles last year; called winning states with team and incredibly meaningful achievement.
Maria Navarro, Benjamin freshman: Recorded an 8-1 record at No. 1 singles and 6-1 record at No. 1 doubles; also played soccer at the school and was named most improved player; school-record holder for her finish at the Class 1A state tennis tournament.
Gianna Panaggio, Jupiter senior: The Louisiana State University of Alexandria commit helped the team win districts and reach regionals for the first time in school history; made quarters in individual singles and semifinals at state with her sister Siany; finished 10-3 in both singles and doubles.
Jessica Popescu, Spanish River sophomore: Won both singles and doubles in districts and finished state runner-up in the Class 4A state tournament; played line 4 last year and moved up three spots to the No. 1 position.
Keira Uter, Wellington junior: Finished the year 11-5 in singles and 11-1 in doubles and won the clinching match at regionals to help the Wolverines reach the state tournament for the first time; rallied from a set down to win the second and the tiebreaker in doubles with partner Raya Dittfurth.

COACH OF THE YEAR
Brian Schleifer, American Heritage-Delray: Led both the Stallions boys and girls teams to Class 2A state championships. Combined, they have won 21 state titles under his leadership. “I was most proud of winning a five-hour regional match. The girls’ team especially showed tremendous heart.”
