Patriots legend joins Tom Brady in long-running push to buy stake in NFL team
TOM Brady’s bid to buy a stake in the Las Vegas Raiders has been boosted by a former teammate.
New England Patriots icon and Hall of Famer Richard Seymour is reportedly close to becoming an owner and limited partner in the franchise.
A source close to the talks told NBC Sports that Seymour will join forces with Brady to acquire a 10.4% stake along with their partners.
For Brady, 46, to become a stakeholder in the Raiders, 24 of the 32 NFL team owners must approve the deal.
The NFL’s finance committee has voiced its concerns over certain financial elements of the bid.
Issues were also reportedly raised surrounding Brady serving as a Fox Sports analyst.
The NFL icon has been in talks over purchasing a stake since last May.
Seymour, 44, was drafted No. 6 overall by the Patriots in 2001.
He won three Super Bowls in New England before being traded to the Raiders in 2009.
The defensive standout was a Pro Bowler twice in four seasons with the Raiders.

The 65-year-old joined Kay Adams on her show Up & Adams to discuss Brady’s move into the booth.
“Tom is a great guy. He’s gonna be brilliant,” he said.
“I mean, our whole life we’ve been trying to anticipate what Tom Brady was thinking when he came to the line of scrimmage, and God right, and now we’re gonna hear it.
“He’s studying hard. He’s working on it.”
Rob Gronkowski says Brady’s greatness is down to consistency.
“You really don’t see that anymore in this generation, he really practices what he preaches,” Gronk told former teammate Julian Edelman on the Games with Names podcast.
“There are no and, ifs, or buts about Tom Brady being Tom Brady.
“What he puts out there, what he preaches, he practices it
“There’s no doubt about it. There are a lot of people out there on social media, or at a lecture, they’re reminiscing about, ‘This is what you gotta do to be great, this is what you gotta do to be successful.’
“Well Tom Brady does what he says on a daily basis.
“He takes care of his body, he takes care of his mind, he competes, and that’s what makes him so great.”
