Penn State Hoops Alumni Team Adds Three Players To 2024 ‘The Basketball Tournament’ Roster

The Happy Valley Hoopers, a team of Penn State men’s basketball alumni competing in The Basketball Tournament, have added John Harrar, Sam Sessoms, and Joshua Reaves to their 2024 roster. Harrar, Sessoms, and Reaves were the first announced additions to the team competing for $1,000,000 in this year’s tournament.

Harrar, who is also acting as the team’s general manager this year, played in 146 games for Penn State from 2017-22, the most in program history. In his final season, the Pennsylvania native averaged 10.6 points and 10.3 rebounds per game in 31 games.

In his two years at Penn State, Sessoms played in 55 games and averaged 10.1 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game. He came to Penn State from 2020-22 after two seasons at Binghamton but transferred to Coppin State the year the Nittany Lions reached the NCAA Tournament.

Reaves played for Penn State from 2015-19, recording 8.9 points, 2.6 assists, three rebounds, and 2.1 steals per game. He signed with the Dallas Mavericks after earning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year recognition in 2019.

This year’s edition of The Basketball Tournament is set to tip off on July 19. While the Happy Valley Hoopers have only announced three players for their 2024 roster, the tournament’s website says the team already has eight players registered for the competition, meaning more announcements are coming.
