Penneys fans have been left wondering what year it is as the retailer launches its new denim skirt.

The item is part of the latest collection from Rita Ora that’s been landing in stores.

However, the Rita Ora Denim Tiered Ruffle Mini Skirt has left fashion fans questioning what year it is.

The “timeless” skirt features pockets, belt loops, concealed front fastening, with tiered and layered ruffle panels at the hem.

Priced at €18, the skirt comes in two colours – Mid blue and Ecru.

It’s available in sizes 4 to 20 in both colours.

The retailer’s full description reads: “No thrills? No, we’re bringing the frills with this tiered mini skirt from the Rita Ora collection — consider the show stolen!

“Made with a timeless denim for an edgy feel, this mini skirt features the pockets, belt loops, concealed front fastening, and panels you’d expect but has been elevated by tiered and layered ruffle panels at the hem to create a Y2K style we’re obsessed with.

“Pair with a baby tee and some chunky sandals for an instant throwback look or dress up with heels and a blouse!”

However, fashion fans have been left baffled by the skirt, with many taking to social media to ask what year it is.

One shopper wrote: “Sorry are we going back in a time capsule? As I’ve done these looks in my teens in early 00s I’ll pass.”

Another commented: “What in the 2004??”

While one other added: “What the year 2000 hell is this.”
