Plymouth’s huge new M&S and Aldi shopping centre moves closer
A huge new shopping development with M&S and Aldi stores is moving closer to completion. The £19m complex at the former Seaton Barracks in Plymouth is expected to be ready by September.
The Plymouth City Council-owned site will create about 100 jobs and provide new facilities for the growing population in the north of Plymouth. Confirmed tenants at the Derriford District Centre include a Marks and Spencer Foodhall, an Aldi supermarket, a Costa Coffee, a PureGym, a Pets Corner pet shop and an Oggy Oggy pasty shop, and there are also plans to lease another unit to a hot-food takeaway operator.
The development includes 12 electric vehicle charging points, sustainable transport links to reduce car use, cycle lanes and easy pedestrian access to bus stops. It’s near a major new housing development and some of Plymouth’s biggest employers, including Derriford Hospital and the Land Registry.
Now plans have been put forward by developers ADC Kimberley Ltd for the signage to sit outside the site. It is one step closer for the new development opening, with the planning application showing how the signage could look.
The centre is conveniently located near a major new housing development and some of Plymouth’s largest employers, including Derriford Hospital and the Land Registry. The site had been left unused for more than 20 years, only serving as a coronavirus test centre, until the redevelopment project kicked off.
Plymouth City Council planners will determine the fate of all the new applications listed below at a later date. Below is the full latest list of planning applications that have been submitted this week.
