PREP TENNIS: Abingdon boys fall to Western Albemarle in VHSL Class 3 state quarterfinals
Abingdon High School’s boys tennis team was no match for the state’s resident powerhouse.
Western Albemarle dispatched the Falcons 5-0 on Saturday in the VHSL Class 3 state quarterfinals in Crozet, winning all five singles matches in straight sets.
Western Albemarle has won six straight state titles dating back to 2017. Four of those came in Class 3, the last two in Class 4 and now the Warriors from the Charlottesville area are aiming for another crown.
Abingdon finished 17-5 under the direction of first-year head coach Bill Gibson. Nicholas McReynolds was the only senior for AHS and he finished as the Region 3D runner-up in both singles and doubles this season.
Junior Aiden Chapman and the sophomore quartet of Luke Gibson, Max LeMasters, Blake Ketron and Eli Miller rounded out the team’s starting lineup.
