Renowned luxury goods maker Montblanc, in collaboration with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) , has announced the release of two writing instruments inspired by the spirit of the Olympic Games.
Launched to mark the centenary of its iconic Meisterstück fountain pen, Montblanc’s new collection also pays homage to the 100th anniversaries of the Olympic Games Paris 1924 and the Olympic Winter Games Chamonix 1924.
The new writing instruments form part of the IOC’s Olympic Heritage Collection, which offers products featuring art and design elements from previous Games editions, connecting fans and collectors with the rich heritage of past Olympic Games.
The Meisterstück x Olympic Heritage Paris 1924 Special Edition features the official red colour of the Olympic Games Paris 1924 and a handcrafted solid gold nib embellished with a javelin thrower, in reference to a vintage Olympic poster from the same Games.
The rest of the design is also rich in Olympic iconography, including the Olympic rings and the Olympic Heritage logo, flanked by laurel wreaths, while the cap is engraved with the words “Olympic Games Paris 1924” inside a frame inspired by the cover of the official Games report.
Completing the collection are the Meisterstück x Olympic Heritage Chamonix 1924 Special Editions, which commemorate the first edition of the Olympic Winter Games, which were held with Mont Blanc as a backdrop in Chamonix, France, in the same year the first Meisterstück was introduced to customers.
The caps of all editions are engraved with the words “Olympic Winter Games Chamonix 1924”, while a ski jumper on the handcrafted solid gold nib is inspired by graphic works created for Chamonix 1924. The cap top ring is embellished with the Olympic Heritage emblem and the Olympic rings, while the Montblanc emblem on the cap top is set in precious coral-coloured resin.
The Montblanc Meisterstück x Olympic Heritage Paris 1924 Special Edition and Chamonix 1924 Special Editions are all available as a fountain pen, ballpoint pen or rollerball.
Expanded Olympic licensing opportunities
The licensing agreement between the IOC and Montblanc is the result of the IOC’s Global Licensing Strategy – an initiative driven by Olympic Agenda 2020+5 that aims to engage and connect fans through official merchandise that strengthens and promotes the Olympic brand, not only during the Olympic Games, but between Games editions as well.
In addition to the Olympic Heritage Collection, the IOC’s core licensing programmes also include The Olympic Collection, which aims to engage a young and active audience through unique branded products including apparel, toys and games, bags, stationery items and sports equipment, and the Olympic and Paralympic Games Collections, which celebrate each upcoming edition of the Games, and include a wide range of accessories, souvenirs, fan gear and apparel.
Through the sale of official merchandise, collectibles and souvenirs, the Olympic licensing programmes offer fans a tangible connection to the Olympic Games and the Olympic values.
All Olympic merchandising items are available for sale at the Olympic Shop (shop.olympics.com).
