Report: Lancashire Lightning v Yorkshire Vikings, Vitality Blast – Yorkshire County Cricket Club

Ottis Gibson admitted his “sheer disappointment” after tonight’s Roses Vitality Blast match at Emirates Old Trafford was abandoned without a ball bowled.

This blockbuster fixture was washed out for a second successive year, with umpires Alex Wharf and Rob White pulling the plug shortly before 7.15pm.

Persistent rain throughout the afternoon stopped only briefly before the 7pm scheduled start time but returned to force the umpires’ hand, with various parts of the outfield looking boggy.

This was Yorkshire’s first rained-off match of the competition and leaves them will 11 points from 12 games. They are now going to have to win their remaining two games to have any chance of elevating themselves into the top four quarter-final qualifying places, starting with Worcestershire at New Road on Sunday (2.30pm).

“It’s sheer disappointment,” said Yorkshire’s coach. 

“I can’t conceal my frustration at coming to Manchester and not getting on at all. It’s very disappointing.

“We know what the equation is in terms of points we need, we feel. 

“We’re going to have to try and win the next two. 

“There’s no doubt we’ve got it within us to win the next two games. 

“We’re certainly looking forward to the weather playing ball with us, getting to Worcestershire and getting a good game.”
