When it comes to style, we are all inspired by what we see; whether it be a well-dressed celebrity, a blow-your-mind catwalk presentation or even a fashionable passerby.
As fashion editors, we’re moved by all of the above, and then some. We’re exposed to under-the-radar labels; we get a first-hand look at collections months before they hit stores; we attend VIP events; we’re tapped into brands with chic-yet-cheap offerings and we shop — a lot.
To share our knowledge, FEMAIL brings you Style Swoon, a weekly series of the latest, greatest and on the verge. We hope this series will serve as a buying guide and point of inspiration for all.
‘Tis the season for music festivals
Pop sensation Rita Ora partnered with Primark once again on a festival collection.
Born in the nineties, Rita taps into styles from the decade for her fourth collection iteration.
The range focuses on high summer festival styles with big ruffles, sheer dresses, and statement accessories – all with the singer’s signature “Rita edge.”
‘I’m so excited to announce the next stage of my journey with Primark with the launch of a festival inspired collection for Summer,’ said Rita.
‘Jewelry is such an easy and effective way to elevate an outfit, and so we made jewelry a real staple of this collection, with the silver headpiece being one of my favorite items.
‘Denim has been a been a style staple throughout our collections, and it’s always been a personal favorite of mine, with this collection including shorts and skirts across a variety of lengths.
‘ I can’t wait to see how people will style this range, and hope they love it as much as I do.’
Rita’s new line-up of looks for this season have been designed to be effortless and freeing for any of summer’s events, with ethereal, delicate tops, soft floral embroidery, asymmetric silhouettes and lightweight fabrications.
Rooted in a neutral color palette, blacks, whites and browns form the basis of the collection, while accessories and jewelry add dimension and embrace the carefree, bohemian spirit.
The collection launches in tandem with Rita’s new festival summer song, “Ask And You Shall Receive”, which was released on May 31st.
Rita stars in the campaign, shot in the gorgeous countryside of her second home, New Zealand.
Paris and Pride
alice + olivia by Stacey Bendet hosted its annual pride event featuring a special live performance by Paris Hilton.
The socialite and DJ previewed “I’m Free”, the lead single from her upcoming album.
Paris stole the show in all custom alice + olivia looks, including a full rainbow outfit, made complete with matching Stuart Weitzman boots.
In keeping with the themes of Pink Rainbow and eras of Paris Hilton, guests were greeted by Drag queens dressed in iconic moments in Paris ’s life.
Attendees were treated to glitter makeovers by Half Magic, customized pink concert bags, tried their luck at the prize-filled claw machine, and received “Sliving Bucks” to cash in at the swag shop for Big Feelings (alice+olivia) and Paris music merch, perfume and more.
The exclusive collaboration launched at the event, and promotes Paris ’s upcoming album “Infinite Icon.”
In honor of the night, Paris Hilton’s 11:11 Media Impact established a $50,000 Sliving Fund dedicated to granting life-changing wishes to the LGBTQ+ community.
The first initiative benefitted the Los Angeles LGBT Center and future grants will support LGBTQ+ direct service programs in NYC and around the country.
Happy Juneteenth
In honor of Juneteenth, Equiano Rum Co and popular hospitality podcast, On The Pass, hosted a very special evening celebrating the rich heritage of Africa, the Caribbean, and the United Kingdom.
The dinner encapsulated the spirit of Equiano Rum Co. and paid homage to the brand’s namesake, abolitionist Olaudah Equiano, and celebrated the deep cultural ties between the regions of Africa and the Caribbean.
The dinner was expertly curated by LA-based Jamaican chef Jazzy Harvey, known best for her acclaimed LA pop-up, Ahnjales.
Chef Harvey crafted an intentional (and visually pleasing) menu celebrating the deep cultural ties between the regions accompanied by delicious cocktails by Equiano Rum Co.
Highlights from Jazzy’s dinner menu included a pounded yam and egusi soup, purple cabbage and mango slaw wet-fried red snapper and jerk BBQ ribs, ginger mint tea and dark chocolate bon bons.
Retail therapy
Global fashion and lifestyle brand Farm Rio continues to spread their message to “Dress in Happiness” by opening a new location this week.
The gorgeous 1690 sq ft space is location at the crossroads of Melrose Avenue and Westmount Drive in West Hollywood, Los Angeles.
This is the label’s second California location, with their first one the iconic Abbot Kinney Blvd. in Venice.
Each location celebrates Brazilian culture and craftsmanship by collaborating with talented artists on the interiors to create a unique shopping experience.
This location highlights Alê Sisdelli and Dominique Jardy.
The Buriti fitting room is one of the store’s highlights, designed and crafted by artist Alê Sisdelli, made by sustainably sourced Buriti straw – a type of palm tree deeply rooted in Brazilian cultural traditions.
Known as the ‘tree of life’ in indigenous communities, the Buriti is also the natural habitat for various bird and insect species.
The store also features watercolor wallpaper hand-painted by French artist Dominique Jardy, capturing the beauty of Brazilian landscapes, plants, and animals with a romantic and poetic touch. Her artwork adds an extra layer of elegance and charm to the store, inviting customers to immerse themselves in the essence of Brazil.
