Roadwork damage to fibre infrastructure in Northern B.C. results in widespread service outage

Whitehorse, YT – Northwestel crews are working to repair fibre infrastructure damaged by roadwork in Northern B.C. which knocked services offline across the territory on Thursday afternoon.

Internet, long-distance and video services were disrupted in Northern B.C. and Yukon late Thursday afternoon.

Late last night, crews said that most customers in Whitehorse are seeing internet service return and that mobility service remained stable. They add in a Facebook post that they will, “continue to work on restoring everything else.”

The Yukon Emergency Measures Organization (EMO) says that if you need to contact emergency services during an outage try calling 911 first. If 911 doesn’t work, EMO recommends going to the nearest RCMP detachment or health centre.
