Robbie Thomson Retires | Raith Rovers Football Club

Raith Rovers Football Club can today confirm that goalkeeper Robbie Thomson has decided to hang up his boots and is retiring as a player.

Robbie will however continue his position as Goalkeeper Coach.

Robbie first signed for Rovers after being released by Falkirk in 2018, following in the footsteps of his father Scott, who was of course between the sticks when Rovers won the League Cup and played in the UEFA Cup in the 1990s.

Having started in the Celtic youth system as an eight-year-old, Robbie signed a two-year professional contract in 2012 and was loaned out to Stenhousemuir and Airdrie in season 2012/13, playing a total of 18 games for the Warriors and the Diamonds.

He left Celtic to sign for Rochdale for the 2013/14 season, but went on to only make one appearance that season.

Cowdenbeath was his next port of call, where he linked up with former Rovers manager Jimmy Nicholl, playing 32 games and being voted the Supporters’ Player and Young Player of the season.

Season 2015/16 saw Robbie sign for Queen of the South, where he played 30 games and then joined Hamilton on a short-term deal.

Robbie then signed for Falkirk, playing 27 games between January 2017 and May 2018.

In Robbie’s time at Raith Rovers, he’s made 57 appearances and is unbeaten in three penalty shoot-outs.

Last season, his SPFL Trust Trophy Semi-Final performance in Dundee won Rovers the game and made headlines across Scottish football.

A UEFA A License Coach, Robbie has been working with our goalkeepers since he joined, helping to better our young keepers with his experience and coaching expertise.
