Rory McIlroy’s heartbreaking 31 top-ten finishes in the 10 years since his last Major triumph

Rory McIlroy has had 31 top-ten finishes in 62 Major starts, but 20 of those have come since he claimed the most recent of his four victories in 2014.

If he fails to win The Open at Royal Troon this week, he will have gone ten years without a Major win. But how close has he really come to claiming that fifth Major over the past 10 years? Breaking down the results, you could argue that heading down the back nine, he’s had realistic chances to win six of the 37 he’s played since he won the PGA Championship by one stroke at Kiawah Island in 2014.
