Ross Barkley returns to Aston Villa – extratime.com

Aston Villa have confirmed the permanent signing of midfielder Ross Barkley from Luton Town. Barkley, who previously enjoyed a loan spell at Villa Park during the 2020/21 season, has signed a three-year contract with the club.

Barkley, 30, began his career at Everton and has played for Chelsea, OGC Nice, and Luton Town. With 33 England caps to his name, he brings a wealth of experience to Villa’s midfield.

Barkley expressed his excitement about returning to Villa.

“For me, and everyone else at the club and the fans, the ambition is to win a trophy,” he said. “The club came so close last season and were unfortunate. With additions to the already great squad that we’ve got, it’s going to be pivotal for the season. Hopefully, we can win a trophy.”

Reflecting on Villa’s progress since his last stint, Barkley noted, “Over the last few years the club has made huge strides since I was last here. As an outsider looking in, it looked fantastic, and to be a part of that is fantastic for me. Playing in the Champions League is a big incentive for me and the club, so I’m looking forward to that.”

Barkley also mentioned his familiarity with some of the current squad.

“I know plenty of staff and I know plenty of the players as well,” he said.

“I’m really close to John McGinn and I speak to him often, Ezri as well. I’m looking forward to getting back in. The last time I came, I didn’t play in front of the fans, so I’m looking forward to that.”

Chief Football Officer Ross Wilson shared his enthusiasm for Barkley’s return.

“We are all delighted to welcome Ross back to Aston Villa and pleased that he has chosen to continue his career with us in the Premier League,” Wilson said.

“We are sure he will thrive in a Villa shirt, as other players in his age profile have done. As soon as the opportunity arose for him to potentially join, it was something we were all excited to make happen.”

Barkley is eager to get started and contribute to Villa’s success.

“It’s a great opportunity. It’s a fresh start so I want to attack it and show everyone what ability I’ve got. I’m looking forward to it all,” he said.
