Top jockey Rob Hornby has confirmed he will not appeal a ban which rules him out of Royal Ascot.

The rider for leading owners Juddmonte was given a seven-day suspension for failing to weigh in after a race.

Hornby, a multiple winner in Group One events, made the error when he dismounted Surrey Belle at Nottingham on June 2. On-course stewards disqualified Hughie Morrison’s filly from third place in the 1m 6f Sky Bet Extra Places Every Day Handicap.

“I’m not going to appeal,” Hornby said yesterday, before taking four rides at Bath.

“I didn’t weigh in and seven days is the starting point, so I don’t think they would reduce it. The ban is disappointing and hard to accept but it was human error. We all make mistakes.”

The royal meeting begins with the Queen Anne Stakes a week on Tuesday, one of three top level contests on its opening card. Hornby, who finished second in last year’s Coronation Stakes on Remarquee, is sidelined from June 16-22.

The Lambourn trainer’s sprinter Kerdos was in front of Adam West’s stable star over course and distance on May 25. At Merseyside’s finishing line, half-a-length separated the Temple Stakes principals, setting Cox’s charge up for a Royal Ascot bid.

William Hill make the four-time winner an 8-1 chance for the King Charles III Stakes, run over five furlongs a week on Tuesday. He bids to emulate Profitable, who prepped in the same event for Cox eight years ago before raising his game at Flat racing’s summer extravaganza.
