RT And RW Devices Can Monitor Online Gambling Activities

JAKARTA – The most effective approach in eradicating online gambling is by relying on RT and RW devices in monitoring the activities of residents in the home environment.

According to Sociologist from Jenderal Sudirman University (Unsoed) Purwokerto, Hariyadi, this method is considered the most effective because RT and RW as the lowest government representatives can monitor online gambling activities directly in the community.

“Because with a system like this, fellow members of the community can remind each other, if their neighbors are caught in online gambling,” Hariyadi said quoting Antara.

According to Hariyadi, online gambling activities can have a bad impact on social environments. One of the most common is the household rift.

This is because online gambling can make the economy of a family erode, triggering problems that cause household rifts.

In addition to the economy, online gambling activities can also cause a lack of interaction between family members at home.

“The time that should be to communicate with family is even spent playing gambling. The longer people play gambling, the higher the level of addiction,” he said.

Therefore, he assessed that the role of RT and RW is very much needed to urge each family not to fall into the vortex of online gambling.

With this early prevention, Hariyadi believes the number of online gambling cases can be reduced.

Previously, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) issued a decree to form an Online Gambling Eradication Task Force led by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Hadi Tjahjanto.

The formation of the Task Force is contained in Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 21 of 2024 concerning the Online Gambling Eradication Task Force which was issued in Jakarta on June 14, 2024.

“Until now, 2.1 million online gambling sites have been closed and the Online Judi Task Force has been formed to accelerate the eradication of online gambling,” said Indonesian President Joko Widodo (12/6).
