RTE Maura Derrane’s lost wedding ring as star suspected ‘fling’ before discovery
RTE star Maura Derrane has revealed the story of how her husband’s precious wedding ring was lost – and was later miraculously found.
The Today Show host and Galway girl regaled RTE Radio 1 listeners on Thursday about the tale as she filled in for Oliver Callan’s show.
She was compelled to share her experience after it was reported that a lady in Salthill lost her diamond in a ballet box when casting her vote.

She said: “Nearly three years ago now, even more, John lost his wedding ring. We couldn’t find it anywhere in the house, we went through the bins, the usual stuff, pulling everything apart, under the bed, but it wasn’t found.
“A year and a half passed, and I said “look, I think we’ll just get another ring for you — I’ll have to put the ball and chain on you, you can’t be going around ringless, what would people think” and all that.”
Maura explained that she was about to buy a new ring when she got a text and a photo of a ring while at work. It was from her make-up artist on The Today Show – Kate Noonan.
She continued: “It was John’s ring, I was thinking, ‘How could she have John’s ring, is she having a fling with my husband, Is this how she’s sharing this with me right now?‘
Maura joked: “No no, of course not — Kate, if you’re listening, I know it’s not.”
It turned out Maura had given Kate her son Cal’s little carseat when he outgrew it, she had taken the seat out to wash it and found the ring after nearly two years missing.
Hopefully, the lady in Salthill will have the same luck.
Meanwhile, the Today Show has wrapped up for the summer months as the much loved RTE daytime programme takes its annual break with plans to return in September.
Hosted by Maura, Daithi O’Se, and Sinead Kennedy the afternoon show continues to be a ratings winner for the national broadcaster and this season was no exception.
