RTÉ star Maura Derrane gets stuck in gate as she enjoys Inis Mór holiday

The Today Show host brought her son Cal home to her native home this week.

The Today Show host brought her son Cal home to her native Inis Mór this week, where she often returns to during the summer months when the show takes a break.

The 54-year-old took to Instagram to show off the seaside scenery after the pair went on a walk together by the coast.

Captioning the clip, she wrote: “Our walk today”, adding the hashtags #inismor, #aranislands, #wildatlanticway, #myhome, #islandlife, and #islandsofireland.

Her followers flocked to the comments section to gush over the island’s beauty, with one person describing it as “a real get away from it all”.

One follower said: “Many years since I have been there Maura, I need a trip back, such wonderful memories of the Island.”

And another added: “Lovely Maura, real nice getaway, enjoy”.

While someone else chimed in: “Beautiful Maura, so peaceful.”

Maura also shared some of her antics from her trip home, including a hilarious video of her trying to squeeze through a gate in one of the fields she hung out in as a child.

In the clip, the mum-of-one can be heard saying: “Let’s see if I can still squish through” as she tries to fit through the metal rods before shouting: “I’m stuck in the gate!” while her son Cal laughs hysterically.

She captioned the humorous video: “Showing Cal around some of the fields where I used to hang out with my sisters when I was a child on Inis Mór. Obvs it’s not today or yesterday.

“I used to slither through these gates like a (snake). God help me, I had convinced myself I could still do it, and also wanted to prove to Cal that it was possible. How wrong I was!”

It comes just weeks after the broadcaster showed images online of her “broken paw” after she fractured her wrist, explaining that she tripped in the “simplest” of falls after “sliding”.

But Maura didn’t let her injury stop her and continued to present her programme after the accident.

“I ran into work, put an ice-pack on it, took a few painkillers and did the show,” she said.

The Today Show host said that such accidents are very “easy” things to occur.

“I didn’t think I had broken it, maybe bruised it,” she added.

“A lovely start to the summer.”
