RTÉ’s Sarah McInerney shares laugh over outfit mixup with TV guest
Galway broadcaster Sarah McInerney took to Twitter last night to share an unlikely coincidence as she ended up with the exact same outfit as the politician she was interviewing.
The Barna woman is an RTÉ journalist and was interviewing newly elected Sinn Féin MEP Lynn Boylan for Primetime when the moment was first noticed.
Sarah and Lynn appeared side by side on the screen and it became clear that the journalist and the former senator were both in green and white last night. This led to the Galway native joking: ‘“Haven’t worn that green suit in ages,” I thought to myself. “Why not give it an outing tonight.”’

The replies to her tweet were having a good laugh about the situation, with ine social media user writing “there’s half a relay team”, and another stating: “Saw that and instantly thought ‘Twinning’ ….The cameraman was clever enough to pan out for the second view to show yours was a suit as a point of difference!”
One commenter took the time to rightly point out that if two men were sharing the screen and wearing the exact same suit it’s likely that noone would even notice, much less care, and that the situation goes to show the scrutiny that women in public life ar eunder.
In other news, Sarah’s fellow Galway woman and RTE star Maura Derrane suffered a painful injury while on her way to RTE studios, on Monday morning.
The Inishmore native had been standing in for Oliver Callan in hosting his RTE Radio 1 show and was on her way to RTE yesterday when she fell and broke her wrist.
Speaking at the top of his show, Oliver thanked Maura for taking over the reins, saying: “My great thanks to Maura Derrane for keeping the fire lit and feeding the RTE squirrel while I was away. Go raibh maith agat, Maura. We have a great show for you today.”
After falling, Maura got an ice pack and some painkillers but that didn’t do the trick and she sought some more advice on treatment.
