Rublev ashamed after terrible behaviour during the French Open – Tennis Tonic – News, Predictions, H2H, Live Scores, stats

Andrey Rublev criticised his behaviour following a breakdown in his French Open third-round encounter. Young Italian player Matteo Arnaldi stunned the world No. 6 in straight sets.

Rublev stormed his bench, shattered his racket, and repeatedly hit his leg before falling out 7-6(6), 6-2, 6-4.

After his elimination from the tournament, Rublev said he had emotionally destroyed himself and couldn’t recall acting worse in a Grand Slam event.

After the match, Rublev expressed his thoughts about his behaviour and said: “I was completely disappointed with myself for the way I behaved and performed, and I don’t remember behaving worse on slams ever. I think it was the first time I ever behaved that badly.”

He added: “I think it’s not about concentration. I think it’s because I put myself completely down, and I gave Matteo wings to fly, and he was flying in the third set, which was unbelievable. It was too late to do something.”

After losing his opening matches in Monte Carlo and Barcelona and having to withdraw early from Rome and Roland Garros, Rublev won his second Masters 1000 trophy in Madrid despite battling sickness. It has been an eventful clay swing for him. However, he clarified that his current issues were entirely psychological.

At the moment, during this season, Andrey has compiled a 24-10 win-loss record. Rublev conquered 2 titles in 2024 in Hong Kong and Madrid.

Rublev will play next in Halle (Terra Wortmann Open). He will start to play in the tournament from the main draw, that will commence on June 17.
