Rutgers Football Recruiting Class: Now and What’s Next

With the addition of linebacker DJ McClary Rutgers football now has the 2nd ranked class in the Big ten and the 9th ranked class nationally. McClary, who was originally committed to play for Penn State, is the second commit that Rutgers has gotten from Happy Valley in the 2025 recruiting cycle.

Rutgers has landed 20 recruits since June 1st, and the signs say that they are not done yet. Since the class already has 28 commitments, they may start slowing down the rate in which they land these commitments but there are a few names that they are still trying to reign in.

One of these names is Travis Johnson who is a wide receiver from Oscar Smith high school in Chesapeake, Virginia. Johnson is a recruit for the 2026 class who currently clocks in at 6-foot-2, 175-pounds and is rated as the No. 72 player in his class. This shift shows that Rutgers is looking to keep their recruiting momentum by rolling right into the next class of recruits. Rutgers sent him an offer earlier today.

As for the rest of the 2025 class, the eyes of the scarlet faithful have turned to Kamar Archie who promised to announce his commitment in early July. Rutgers is in tight competition with Michigan and Clemson to win his heart. His commitment would be the icing on the cake for the Scarlet Knights in the already impressive 2025 recruitment class.
