Rutgers Football Recruiting Update: Scarlet Knights turn in busy weekend
Greg Schiano and the Scarlet Knights had an extremely busy weekend on the recruiting trail.
On Saturday, four prospects in the Class of 2025 committed to Rutgers and two more was added on Sunday afternoon.
UPDATE (6/2, 6:30pm): The action continued on Sunday afternoon with Schiano returning to one of the powerhouses of New Jersey high school football.
Offensive tackle Chris Vigna became the second OL commit for the Scarlet Knights. Vigna had other offers from the likes of Penn State and West Virginia. Schiano has been able to land a commit from Bergen Catholic in each of the last two years. Vigna now joins Kaj Sanders from 2024.
Shortly after Vigna committed, Michigan product N-Kye Wynn shared his decision. The 6-foot-5 offensive lineman had a list of 25 schools including Wisconsin, Michigan State, Pitt, Ole Miss, Minnesota, Kansas, and Indiana.
It began when New York defensive lineman Miron Gurman committed to Rutgers following his official visit weeks age. Gurman, a two-way star from Spencerport, NY, doubles as an offensive lineman but was recruited to play on the defensive side of the ball by Schiano.
Next, it was one of three commits out of the state of Georgia. Defensive lineman Braxton Kyle took to Twitter to announce his commitment. Kyle became the second defensive lineman of the day and third in the Class of 2025 to join the Scarlet Knights. At 6-foot-3, 320 pounds, Kyle has the makings of a Big Ten defensive lineman. He held offers from App State, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Coastal Carolina, and more.
Schiano did more to beef up the defensive front with a commitment coming from Raedyn Bruens as well on Saturday. Bruens will enter Rutgers as a defensive end. The Scarlet Knights were the first Power Four to offer Bruens. Miami was a late addition as it offered him as an offensive lineman. Bruens is coming off a junior year where he totaled 48 tackles and two sacks.
Cornerback Michael Clayton committed to Rutgers during a meeting with Schiano on Saturday. He was first offered by Rutgers in May and showed early interest and now he made it official. Clayton had visits scheduled with Georgia State and Central Michigan but is expected to cancel. A product of Warner Robins Northside in Georgia, he became the second commit from the state this weekend.
It was clear that Schiano was interested in recruiting the state of Georgia and added one more on Sunday. Defensive lineman Chase Linton took his official visit on Sunday and committed to Rutgers right away. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound lineman has started gaining plenty of attention in recent weeks. This includes from Memphis and App State.
Finally, wide receiver Vernon Allen became the sixth addition this weekend for Rutgers. As a junior, the Baltimore City College receiver totaled 74 catches for 1,123 yards and 13 touchdowns. He is currently ranked as the 16th-overall prospect in Maryland and 98th receiver in the country. He was scheduled to visit Duke, Wisconsin, and Syracuse as well. Allen is the second receiver in the class to commit to Rutgers, joining Atlantic City’s Sah’nye Degraffenreidt.
It was a busy weekend of recruiting for Rutgers that totaled six new additions. The Class of 2025 now features 16 commits. According to 247Sports, this ranks 28th overall in the nation and seventh in the Big Ten.
