Rutgers women’s basketball hires staffer who worked with Caitlin Clark
The latest addition to the Rutgers women’s basketball staff has strong connections to WNBA rookie Caitlin Clark.
Rutgers hired Iowa graduate Will McIntire, who spent the past four seasons working with the Hawkeyes in several capacities, as its new Director of Scouting & Technology. His duties at Iowa often included competing against Clark as a member of the practice squad.
“Will is energetic, passionate and has an incredible work ethic,” coach Coquese Washington said in a Rutgers release. “He brings championship experience to our staff and there is no question he will have a tremendous impact on our program. I couldn’t be happier to add Will to our Rutgers family.”
In his most recent role, McIntire served as a graduate assistant for Iowa. He was in charge of overseeing both the practice squad and the student manager group, advising their scheduling, training and teaching them opposing team schemes.
His relationship with Clark on the practice court was once featured in “The Athletic.”
“It’s the best job on campus, in terms of every life skill,” he told the Athletic. “You learn how to handle everything.”
McIntre assisted in scouting efforts, which included putting together playbooks and labeling film. He helped coordinate recruiting visits by creating graphics, building itineraries, and coordinating other details. He also engaged with donors, special visitors, and worked with NIL collectives.
Before starting his role as a graduate assistant, McIntire served as a student manager, participating in practices and attending all games. He helped out with equipment, film and aided assistant coaches during various events.
“I couldn’t be more excited to join the Rutgers women’s basketball family,” McIntire said in a release. “Coach Washington and her staff have a clear vision of building on the program’s historic and winning traditions. I look forward to assisting the staff and helping our student-athletes reach their goals both on and off the court.”
