Samsung Slashes Galaxy Watch Price In Surprise New Deal

Samsung is currently running a trade-in deal that halves the price of the Galaxy Watch FE.

The promotion values all used smartwatches at $100 when traded in, which brings the price of the Galaxy Watch FE down to $99. On face value, $100 for an Apple Watch Series 6, or Samsung Galaxy Watch 5, are not great prices. But where the deal stands out is that Samsung is offering $100 for “any smartwatch” in “any condition.”

The terms and conditions for this deal on Samsung’s website seem to be boilerplate stipulations that apply to all other trade-in deals. For example, they state that the device has to “work normally” and that the screen and body are crack-free. But it may be that Samsung hasn’t developed a specific T&Cs policy for this deal, because the website clearly says it will accept a device in “any condition.”

I have asked Samsung to clarify if it truly means it will accept any wearable, regardless of how beat up it is. I’ll update this story when I get a response.

If that is the case, enterprising deal hunters should head to eBay or Swappa and pick up a $30 Fossil Gen 3 Q Venture watch, or $16 Garmin Vivoactive 3 wearable, and trade it in for a new Galaxy Watch FE. If you have an old device lying around, that should qualify too.

It’s unclear how long this deal will last, perhaps until Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event on July 10th, where new Galaxy Watches will be announced. But it’s worth pointing out that a similarly generous trade-in deal from Google last month, that saw a sixth-generation iPad valued at $399 when buying the $399 Pixel Tablet.

The deal caused a frenzy, with buyers picking up cheap iPads on eBay and sending them to Google for the discount. The company quickly cottoned on and axed the promotion a day later.

Google told me that it would honor those lucky few who picked up the deal before it disappeared. If you have been on the hunt for a Galaxy Watch FE, which is already well-priced at $199, this might be a short-lived opportunity to get it for a very low price.
