Saoirse Ruane family ‘life changed’ since loss as mum shares grave habit
The family of Saoirse Ruane have shared a heartbreaking update as they continue to grieve the loss of the little Galway star.
The Kiltullagh family lost brave Saoirse to osteosarcoma in March 2024 after almost five years of battling the disease. Saoirse had a leg amputated in her bid to beat the horrible disease – which she did TWICE, before she finally succumbing aged 12.
Her death sparked widespread mouring for a girl who had helped raise millions for charity and captured the nation’s hearts after her star turn on RTÉ’s Late Late Show.

And now, almost three months on from her death, mum Roseanna shared how the family is grieving such a titanic loss. Roseanna shared heartbreaking details of how she visits Saoirse’s grave multiple times a day. She also explained how sometimes she is comforted to be with her daughter by her graveside, but other times finding it difficult to speak, suffocated by sadness and loss.
The moving post revealed: “How life has changed Saoírse. Never in my dreams did I ever envisage calling to tend to your garden twice (maybe three) times a day.
“Sometimes finding it suffocating to speak to you whilst looking at your little face on a cross, sometimes getting great comfort from it. No two days are the same. We are trying, That’s all.
“I hope you’re happy up there, pain free and as innocent as the day you were born. We miss you terribly. I fell upon this audio and thought it explained a lot.”
Saoirse’s heartbroken mother also shared how she was “loved more than words” in a video posted on her Instagram story at the end of May 2024.
As the family try to come to terms with their loss, they’re taking it day by day with Roseanna recently revealing a note that was left in flowers to commemorate Saoirse.
The note has a heartwarming message for the family which showed how much people miss Saoirse.
The note read: “We miss you so much Saoirse. Fly high we see you and feel you around so often. Our angel forever more.” Accompanying the video, Roseanna added: “Saoirse you are loved beyond words.”
