Irish actor Sarah O’Connor talks to RTÉ Entertainment’s John Byrne about returning to her native Dublin to play Glinda in a new run of monster musical Wicked at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre.

Sarah is most definitely flying the flag for the Irish on London’s West End and follows a line of recent successful theatre stars shining on the world stage such as Killian Donnelly and Stephanie Mckeown.

Born in Lucan, Sarah attended Dublin’s Westside Performing Arts and was a finalist in the RTÉ talent show Fame: The Musical before making her West End debut in Mamma Mia! in 2011.

Sarah has gone on to star in a host of other West End shows including Les Misérables; played Imelda Quirke in The Commitments; Evita; Waitress; Dolly Parton’s Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol and, most recently, Disney’s Frozen.

Wicked runs at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre from July 23 to September 14, with Laura Pick starring alongside Sarah O’Connor as Elphaba.

“It’s going to be amazing,” she insists. “And I was playing a much smaller part in Evita when I was here before. It was for five days. This is nearly two months! I think it’s going to be a very different experience.”

Tickets for Wicked are available from Ticketmaster.
