Saugatuck golf finishes seventh at state tournament; Holland Christian freshman 22nd

The Saugatuck golf team finished seventh at the Division 4 state tournament on Friday and Saturday at The Meadows at Grand Valley State.

The Trailblazers shot 355 on Friday and 348 on Saturday for a 703. Clarkston Everest Collegiate won the state title with a 664.

Elijah Janowiak (90-84) and Russell Vande Poel (95-79) each shot 174s to lead Saugatuck, tying for 29th overall.

Cameron Lewis shot an 85-94-179 to finish 39th, while Jacey Merkle shot a 92-91-193 and Owen Marzolf fired an 88-95-183 to finish tied for 50th.

Division 2

Holland Christian freshman Linus VandenBerg finished 22nd individiually at the Division 2 state tournament.

On Friday, he fired a 75 and followed that up with a 79 for a 154 for the tournament.

It was the highest finish at state by a Holland Christian boys golfer in more than 16 years.
