The Gigabyte AORUS CO49DQ is a 49″ DQHD (5120×1440) ultra-wide gaming monitor with a quantum dot OLED panel. QD OLED panels are brighter than OLED panels while maintaining the same incredible black levels, accurate color reproduction, and ultra-fast 0.03ms response time. The AORUS boasts a 99% DCI-P3 color range and is VESA HDR True Black 400 certified. Unlike other more expensive 49″ OLED panels which boast a 240Hz refresh rate, this one maxes out at 144Hz. That’s still an excellent number that far exceeds the 60Hz “minimum” for PC gamers, but if you need a higher refresh rate on this type of monitor then you will need to spend more money. The AORUS has both DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.1 ports, so you can also connect your PS5 or Xbox Series X console. Another nice perk is that it has both USB 3.0 and USB Type-C downstream ports for connecting peripherals like your mouse and/or keyboard.
Although the AORUS isn’t a true 4K monitor, it still has plenty of pixels packed into the 49″ display. This is an ultra-wide monitor with the same resolution as two 27″ monitors stacked next to each other. In fact, the horizontal pixel count (5,120 pixels) is actually greater than a traditional 4K monitor (3,840 pixels). That, combined with an 1800R curve, allows for maximum immersion during gaming.
Obviously the AROUS isn’t a monitor for everyone. You need a rather generous gaming budget if you want to add this to your rig. The cost is what keeps many us gamers at bay, but if you’ve been eyeballing an OLED monitor with a super-wide aspect ratio for a while, this is the best deal on the market.
