Second teen dies following bus and e-scooter crash in Waterford

A second teenage boy has died following the crash between a bus and an e-scooter in Waterford City which happened in the early hours of Thursday morning. 

One teenage boy who was travelling on the e-scooter was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Gardaí this afternoon confirmed that the second boy also in his teens, who was also on the e-scooter and had been taken to Waterford University Hospital with serious injuries, had also died. 

A technical examination of the scene has been completed and the road has been reopened. 

A Garda Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to provide support to the families. 

The boy’s death brings the number of people killed on Irish roads so far this year to 92. 

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the Cork Road in Waterford city between 1.45am and 2.15am are asked to make this footage available to gardaí,” a garda spokesperson said. 

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Waterford Garda Station on 051 305300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.”
