Section 7 invites top SoCal teams to Arizona; players to watch, schedule, brackets
The biggest – and coolest – high school boys basketball event of the summer begins Friday in Glendale, Ariz. at State Farm Stadium, home of the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals.
Yes, prep basketball in a football stadium.
Section 7 will start the morning of June 21 and conclude June 23 on Sunday afternoon. The event consists of 10 brackets and 160 NFHS (National Federation of State High School Associations) schools. That’s the ‘big’ part.
The ‘cool’ part is the way the event is set up. Twelve courts are built inside the stadium creating a unique tournament and providing an upscale, roomy atmosphere for players, coaches, media and college coaches during the live recruiting period.
Thirty-four CIF Southern Section teams will compete over the weekend, highlighted by Open Division-level programs like defending champion Harvard-Westlake and runner-up Eastvale Roosevelt. Other notable teams including Corona Centennial, St. John Bosco, Sierra Canyon, Notre Dame Sherman Oaks, JSerra, St. Pius and Mater Dei.
Other programs competing: Campbell Hall, Anaheim Canyon, Dana Hills, Calvary Chapel, Heritage Christian, Pasadena, Rolling Hills Prep, St. Anthony, Thousand Oaks, Temecula Valley, St. Bernard, Redondo Union, Crespi, Foothill, La Mirada, Los Alamitos, Riverside Poly, Santa Margarita, St. Francis, Windward, Pacifica Christian, Loyola, Etiwanda, Damien and Rancho Christian.
A number of SoCal’s rising prospects will be on display. Here’s a list of the best that are sure to create buzz in Arizona over the weekend.
Note: Top 2026 prospect Brandon McCoy of St. John Bosco will not be at Section 7 due to U17 USA basketball duties
