Sewickley Heights Golf Club’s 17th hole shows its teeth at more than 600 yards | The Elite 18

BELL ACRES, Pa. (KDKA) — Sewickley Heights Golf Club is the home of multiple Par 5 holes that stretch longer than 600 yards, and the 17th hole is among the best in our area.

The 17th stretches 603 yards with a large water hazard coming into play.

Head Golf Professional Steve Hopley showed KDKA-TV’s Bob Pompeani his ideal approach, hitting a driver, but staying short of more water that can come into play.

The second shot on the 17th hole at Sewickley Heights Golf Club offers quite the challenge with a carry over water.

A good drive can leave you in a position to try and reach the green in two shots, but that presents a daunting challenge.

“280 yards into the wind, it’s a stretch,” Hopley said.

Laying up with a short iron on a second shot leaves you the option of having 110 to 120 yards in for your approach shot into the green.

The green presents its own challenges, as even a pin high shot can roll back to the front of the green without proper spin control.
