Shannon firm flies high with new jobs

THIRTY new jobs have been created in Shannon after a firm unveiled plans to recruit new trainee aircraft technicians.

Atlantic Aviation Group, which employs 600 people at Shannon Airport, is one of Europe’s largest aircraft maintenance companies.

It is to open two recruitment periods for its traineeship programme this year due to an expanding client base.

Applicants wishing to train as aircraft maintenance technicians can apply for the first phase of recruitment on June 10, while the second phase will begin in October.

The company has teamed up with Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board (ETB) to offer the two-year traineeship programme.

On completion, a total of 30 trainees will receive a category A aircraft maintenance licence from the Irish Aviation Authority.

The partnership between Atlantic Aviation Group which operates its own training academy, and Education Training Board aims to address the shortage of qualified aircraft maintenance technicians.

Qualifications awarded through the AAG programme are globally recognised, meaning qualified technicians have the freedom to work anywhere in the world.
