TRIBUTES have been paid to a young Cork camogie player who passed away unexpectedly this week.
Glen Rovers Camogie Club are mourning the loss of their senior star player, Sarah-Kate O’Meara, who turned 18 just last week.
The student recently fell ill before leaving her home to sit one of her Leaving Cert exams. She was rushed to the Mater Hospital in Dublin, before she passed away.
Following her unexpected death, the club shared tributes on social media expressing their heartbreak.
.
“She was a cherished member of our club. Our hearts are broken, but we will never forget her and her spirit in our camogie family.”
As a mark of respect, the club has opened a book of condolence at the club bar. It will be available for those who wish to pay their respects to sign until Saturday.
Glen Rovers Hurling Club joined the camogie club in expressing their condolences to the O’Meara family.
Glen Rovers clubman and three-time Cork All-Ireland winner Tomás Mulcahy also expressed his sympathies.
“Tragic news to hear of the unexpected death of Glen Rovers camogie player Sarah-Kate O’Meara. My thoughts and prayers are with the O’Meara family and her Glen camogie girls. May she rest in peace,” he said.
Blackpool’s St Nicholas Gaelic Football Club also joined in expressing their sympathies to Sarah-Kate’s family, club members, and friends.
Sarah-Kate is sadly missed by her parents Tony and Diann and siblings Emily, Isobel, James, and Grace, extended family, neighbours, and her wide circle of friends.
Funeral arrangements have been announced for this weekend with donations, if desired, to the Irish Heart Foundation.
Reposing at her home tomorrow, Friday, — with visitation from 4pm and prayers at 8pm — the requiem Mass will take place on Saturday at 11am in the Church of the Ascension in Gurranabraher, followed by burial at St Catherine’s Cemetery in Kilcully.
