Shocking images have emerged of a fight that show why a Ryanair flight to Tenerife was diverted to mainland Spain.

The plane that had taken off at Liverpool was forced to land at Santiago after a “’conflictive” passenger caused chaos on board.

The plane that was full of holidaymakers was met at Santiago by police and a doctor after making what was reported as an emergency landing.

The Mail has reported that Spanish air traffic controllers said the crew raised the alert during the incident last week.

“The crew of a flight from Liverpool to Tenerife south have contacted us about a conflictive passenger on board and have had to divert to Santiago de Compostela,” controllers are quoted as saying.

The air traffic controllers said the crew had tried to calm the situation but asked for officers to greet the Ryanair Boeing 737 after its emergency landing.

It is understood the incident happened last Thursday morning, and several social media users have since shared video and images of the incident on board.

In one video that quickly went viral, several passengers are seen grappling with a man who appears to be trying to open the overhead locker.

The man, in a black shirt, appears to strike a flight attendant who is preventing him from opening the compartment.

At one point one person sitting close to the man punches him in the face.

It has been reported that the man was restrained by others who managed to tie him up with a belt until the plane landed.

Once they arrived in Santiago, the flight resumed “without further incident once the authorities took charge,” el Economista reports.

“They removed this passenger before the flight continued to Tenerife.”
