A TERRIFYING road rage incident last night has shocked locals in a picturesque Co Kildare village with a couple caught on video smashing up a car.

Gardai are investigating a series of alleged offences arising from the incident in Ballymore Eustace including assaults on three people and damage to a car as well as a building.

In the video, the couple are seen on the main square hitting a silver car with weapons which appears to have its back window smashed.

In footage posted online, an adult can be told telling a frightened child to “Close your eyes, close your eyes.” “I’m not looking, are you?” the scared juvenile replies.

A second video taken from a different angle shows a man approaching the silver car which appears to be stopped in front of a second car in the middle of the village.

A man then emerges from it, armed with an implement and appears to confront the approaching man along with the woman.

The implement is swung at the taller man a number of times who defends himself and parries the blows.

The woman is also seen attempting to connect with a kick before the couple then get into a third car in an attempt to drive away.

Another group of men run towards the third car and one of them picks up the discarded implement and falls over as the driver reverses.

One person can be heard saying a “hammer” is being used and that one person “is off their head.”

The incident and the lead up to it are now being investigated by gardaí.

“Gardaí are investigating a number of incidents of dangerous driving, criminal damage and assault that occurred on Main Street, Ballymore Eustace, Co. Kildare on the evening of Wednesday 12th June, 2024 at approximately 8.45pm.”

“Damage to a number of vehicles was committed and also damage to a building.”

“Three persons were assaulted (two males and one female, all aged in their 50s) during the incidents. Investigations ongoing.”

A local resident told the Sunday World the incident has left people in the area deeply shocked.
