Simone Biles qualifies for Paris Olympics in front of Jonathan Owens
Simone Biles is heading to her third Olympic Games, and this time she’ll have husband Jonathan Owens by her side.
The 27-year-old, who is the most decorated gymnast in history, secured her place on Team USA ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics over the weekend.
Owens was on hand to support his wife, the four-time Olympic gold medalist, as he led the standing ovation after her floor routine.
‘We going to Paris. Man I’m so proud,’ the Chicago Bears safety wrote on Instagram Sunday, after TV cameras showed him leaping to his feet and cheering for the famed athlete at the Target Center in Minneapolis.
Biles posted an all-around score of 117.225 ahead of Sunisa Lee and Jordan Chiles, who finished second and third, respectively.
Jade Carey and Hezly Rivera rounded out the top five, while Joscelyn Roberson and Leanne Wong will also join the squad as traveling replacement athletes.
While at the Tokyo Games in 2021, Biles withdrew from the all-around final to focus on her mental health, opting to see a therapist weekly.
‘I knew I wasn’t done after the performances in Tokyo,’ Biles told NBC.
‘So just getting back in the gym and working hard and trusting the process. … I knew I’d be back,’ she added.
The gymnast will also have A-lister Taylor Swift cheering her on.
The pop megastar was left stunned by Biles’ use of her song ‘Ready For It’ during her floor routine.
Responding to footage shared by the NBC Olympics account on X, Swift wrote: ‘Watched this so many times and still unready. She’s ready for it tho.’
She and Owens, who started dating at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, tied the knot over one year ago in 2023.
‘I do. officially owens,’ Biles captioned a series of photos at the time,
‘This is your sign to marry your best friend.’
Her beau echoed the sentiment, adding, ‘My person, forever.’
