Sources: Texas hires Memphis basketball strength and and conditioning coach Darby Rich

Texas has hired Memphis men’s basketball strength and conditioning coach Darby Rich, shown smiling with Tigers player David Jones before a game in November.

Texas has hired Memphis basketball strength and conditioning coach Darby Rich for the same position with the Longhorns, multiple sources with direct knowledge of the situation told the Memphis Commercial Appeal on Saturday.

Rich did not immediately return a request for comment.

Rich concludes his second stint with the Tigers after one season. He previously spent two seasons (2019-20 and 2020-21) at Memphis in the same role. The South Carolina native has also served as strength and conditioning coach at Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas A&M and Texas Tech. As a player, he was one of three co-captains (alongside Robert Horry and Latrell Sprewell) during his senior year (1991-92) at Alabama.
