Spain and Chelsea star Cucurella calls out Gary Neville after Euro 2024 final
Marc Cucurella had a cheeky response to Gary Neville’s critique after Spain’s triumph over England in the Euro 2024 final.
Spain clinched the trophy after Cole Palmer had cancelled out Nico Williams’ initial strike. Luis de la Fuente’s squad secured the championship with seven victories, only once needing extra time.
Cucurella, who was ever-present except for one group game when Spain’s progression was already certain, played a pivotal role in Berlin by delivering the assist for Oyarzabal’s winner at the Olympiastadion.

The ex-Brighton man and current Chelsea left-back took to Instagram to share a jab at Neville, referencing the pundit’s earlier comments on ITV Sport.
Neville had expressed his doubts about Cucurella’s inclusion: “I didn’t think he’d play. He’s not been convincing at Chelsea. He’s played a few games towards the end of the season. He’s aggressive, he’s tenacious, he’s a busy little full back. The price tag still astounds everyone to this day.
“The Spanish defence, it’s got a lot of experience now but there’s something just missing from Spain that makes you feel like they’re going to go all the way. I have to say that him being at left-back is a good example of why we think that.”
Cucurella took to social media with a cheeky nod to the previous comments, posting: “We went all the way Gary. Thanks for your support.” He punctuated his message with a heart, a trophy, a Spanish flag, and a kiss emoji.
Claudia Rodriguez, Cucurella’s partner, also joined in the banter. She shared an Instagram photo of Cucurella in jubilation with the trophy, teasingly captioning it: “How was your night, @gneville2? “.
Reflecting on Spain’s triumph, manager De la Fuente expressed his confidence in his squad, stating: “I was sure that my players believed in me, for a year and a half they have been infallible.
“The only thing that I was worried about was that the players believed in me and were convinced by what we said. Now it’s all happiness, pride and enjoying this moment that we have earned. Nobody gave us anything for free.”
Liverpool.com says: Cucurella enjoyed an excellent tournament in Germany but very few saw it coming after his difficult couple of years at Chelsea. He looked like the player that Chelsea thought they had signed from Brighton and will now look to kick on an improve further at Stamford Bridge.
