Spain warning as shopping rule could see you fined €200

Experts have named a couple of laws to watch out for when you’re on holiday, as you could be breaking them without even knowing it

If you’re heading off on holiday to Spain this summer, you’ll want to know about a little-known shopping law that could see you hit with a hefty fine if you’re caught breaking it.

When you’re in a different country, it’s important to respect your chosen destination by becoming clued up on local customs and laws so that you don’t make any mistakes while travelling.




And while some rules are more obvious than others, some are less known. One of these, which Spanish officials are cracking down on, surrounds buying ‘fake’ designer gear from street sellers.

New research by Haypp has shown that 80% of people are unaware of the changing laws that apply abroad, so the team has put together some of the most important ones that you may not already know about.

And a warning goes out to holiday shoppers who love to purchase the odd ‘fake’ handbag on the beach during the summer, as this has been banned. In an effort to remove unlicensed street sellers from the tourist strips, Spain has announced a €200 fine (£170) to any tourist caught buying from them.

The government has announced this in an attempt to reduce the sale of illegal items – so be careful next time you’re browsing any ‘fakes’ this summer.

With that in mind, here are a few more little-known laws that everyone should be aware of during holiday season this year.

Urinating in the sea

It’s safe to say the majority of Brits will have taken a quick trip to the sea for a wee at some point in their life. However, a northern city in Spain, Vigo, introduced a ban on anyone urinating in the sea.
