Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz inspired by Sir Alex Ferguson – Man United News And Transfer News | The Peoples Person

Sir Alex Ferguson may be 82 years old and have retired eleven years ago, but his influence is still very much felt across the sporting world.

The legendary former manager is still regularly seen attending Manchester United games and chatting away to key power holders at the club Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sir Dave Brailsford.

He was recently seen checking his watch on TV cameras during the FA Cup final, as he used to do while prowling along the touchline, and also warmed the hearts of anyone connected with the club when he was caught singing along to “Glory Glory Man United” as the team celebrated an unlikely victory over Manchester City at Wembley.

His influence is clearly still high at the club at board level as he was seen leaving a restaurant this weekend with Crystal Palace sporting director Dougie Freeman, who he reportedly met to understand the availability of some of the Eagles’ most sought-after players including INEOS favourite, Michael Olise.

The legendary manager won an outrageous 38 major trophies with the Red Devils and his aura even manages to connect with the youth of today.

In a recent interview, Spanish tennis player and Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz claimed that he follows a certain mantra that came from the United manager.

The world number three is currently competing in the French Open, having secured his safe passage to the quarter finals where he will take on Stefanos Tsitsipas in a blockbuster draw.

Speaking to Relevo, the 21 year old revealed that he was inspired by the quote by Sir Alex, “attack makes you win games. Defence makes you win titles”.

The exciting tennis player, who has already won two Grand Slam titles, says that he could learn a thing or two from Ferguson’s words.

He claimed that despite the fact that his “essence is to try to do different things, to try to impress people”, he should also try and be a bit more “boring, in quotes,” to elevate his game.

Ferguson was famed for his risk-taking football so at first glance it might be surprising that someone should take this quote from the great manas the one to live by.

However, the likes of Peter Schmeichel, Edwin van der Sar, Gary Neville, Denis Irwin, Steve Bruce, Gary Pallister, Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Jaap Stam and Patrice Evra, to name just a few, certainly were the true backbone of those glorious years under Sir Alex.
