Spurs have proven Doue transfer is possible ahead of France call-up

Desire Doue is a wanted man this summer after making quite the statement on the pitch for Rennes over the past two seasons. football.london reported in June that the 19-year-old is one of those on Tottenham’s attacking midfield shortlist ahead of the new term.

That strong interest in Doue has not diminished but Spurs certainly will not have it all their own way if they do indeed launch a move for the versatile attacker. Bayern Munich and PSG have been heavily linked with the youngster, with Manchester United and Chelsea also mentioned in regards to Doue.

A number of talented players have come through the system at Rennes in recent years to seal big-money transfers elsewhere, including Eduardo Camavinga of Real Madrid, and Doue looks set to follow in the French international’s footsteps in the not too distant future. Contributing with four goals and five assists in his 31 Ligue 1 games last term, the Angers-born player would give Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham options as he is capable of playing on the right flank and in a central role as well as his natural position on the left-wing.

Interested clubs may well want to press ahead with a move for Doue sooner rather than later as he is set to represent France in this year’s Olympic Games in Paris. The winger is part of a very talented squad put together by coach Thierry Henry, with players such as Michael Olise, Rayan Cherki and Alexandre Lacazette all involved.

Already playing one warm-up game ahead of the Olympics commencing, the football gets underway on Wednesday, July 24 as France take on the United States that evening. If the hosts do manage to go all the way to the final, the gold medal match will be played on Friday, August 9.

That in turns means that Doue, if he has signed for a new club by then, will miss a large chunk of pre-season friendly action before the 2024/25 league season officially kicks-off. Euro 2024 and the Copa America this summer has highlighted that transfer deals for players involved in the competition are very rare, with that potentially the case when it comes to the Olympics once the games begin in late July.
