State Golf: How did Gull Lake’s team, Harper Creek’s Joey Mario do at Division 2 finals

EAST LANSING — Gull Lake finished the first day of the MHSAA state golf finals in first place. However, the Blue Devils slipped back on Day 2.

Gull Lake finished third overall as a team in the Division 2 boys golf state tournament at Michigan State University with a team score of 609. Orchard Lake St. Mary’s trailed Gull Lake by a stroke after the first round, but put together a team round of 299 on Saturday to finish as state champs at 603 overall.

Gull Lake sophomore Maxwell Vandermolen finished ninth overall to earn All-State honors with a 148. Hank Livingston was 22nd (154) for Gull Lake, Beau Carr (156) was 31st, Joseph Biondia (161) was 52nd and Benjamin Szabo shot a 172.

Harper Creek’s Joey Mario qualified as an individual for the Division 2 state finals. The junior had a 77 on the first day and 80 on the second to finish 38th overall at 157.

In Division 4, two local golfers qualified as individuals. Homer senior Kenyon Miller had a 196 in the two rounds and Colon sophomore Dalton Williams shot a two-day total of 205.
