Stinger Captain Oosthuizen WDs, Ormsby fills in | LIV Golf

HUMBLE, Texas – Stinger GC Captain Louis Oosthuizen withdrew prior to Saturday’s second round of LIV Golf Houston with a lower back injury. Reserve player Wade Ormsby will fill his spot on the South African team for the final two rounds at the Golf Club of Houston.

Oosthuizen currently ranks fourth in this season’s Individual standings, and was runner-up in both Jeddah and Adelaide. He shot a bogey-free 3-under 69 in Friday’s opening round.

“Woke up today and wasn’t feeling great,” Oosthuizen said on the Stingers’ X account. “Tried everything. Won’t be able to walk around and swing today.”

He said he expects to return for LIV Golf’s next tournament in Nashville on June 21-23.

Ormsby, a native of Australia, was a full-time LIV Golf player during the inaugural 2022 season. He made one reserve appearance last year, and earlier this season in Jeddah, he filled in for injured RangeGoats GC player Matthew Wollf for the final round, shooting 72.

Ormsby’s most recent career start came in April at the Saudi Open presented by PIF, where he finished second to John Catlin, who won by seven shots. Catlin also is in action as a reserve player this week in Houston, filling in for Crushers GC’s Charles Howell III, who withdrew before the start of the tournament with a leg injury.

The 44-year-old Ormsby currently ranks 11th on the Asian Tour points standings.
