Tata Power invests over ₹4,200 crore in Odisha’s power infrastructure – CNBC TV18
Tata Power’s power distribution companies (discoms) have made an investment of ₹4,245 crore in the expansion and upgrading of power infrastructure in Odisha over the past 3-4 years.
The announcement was made by the company on Friday, July 12, highlighting significant developments in the state’s power distribution network.
Tata Power operates four discoms in joint ventures with the Odisha government: TP Central Odisha Distribution (TPCODL), TP Western Odisha Distribution (TPWODL), TP Southern Odisha Distribution (TPSODL), and TP Northern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPNODL).
Together, these discoms serve a customer base of over nine million.
A significant portion of the total investment, ₹1,232 crore, has been allocated through various government-backed schemes.
These funds have facilitated the laying of 2,177 circuit kilometres (Ckm) of 33 kilovolt (KV) lines and 19,809 Ckm of 11 KV lines.
Additionally, 30,230 distribution transformers have been added to enhance the reliability of the distribution network in both rural and urban areas.
The company has also commissioned 166 new primary substations (PSSs), with 55% of them being automated.
As a result of these efforts, urban areas now receive an average of 23.68 hours of power supply per day, while rural areas receive 21.98 hours, both figures surpassing national averages, the company said.
Moreover, these network improvements have contributed to a reduction in aggregate transmission and distribution (AT&C) losses, which averaged 17.79% in Odisha during financial year 2023-24.
