A teacher who has alleged she was subjected to “derogatory joking references to religion” while working at a County Donegal primary school because she is married to a Protestant man has denied that she is “creating a narrative of discrimination” because she was “annoyed” about not being reappointed there two years ago.
The teacher, Aoife Cleary, has alleged that she was repeatedly referred to as “Mrs Wilkin” – her husband’s surname – years after she stopped using the name in a professional context – as well as being questioned about when her children, who were being raised in the Church of Ireland, would make their Communions.
