Teen killed in bus and e-scooter collision in Waterford

A teenager has died and another was seriously injured following a collision between a bus and an e-scooter in Waterford in the early hours of this morning.

The incident occurred at around 1.10am on the R680 Cork Road.

A teenage boy who was travelling on the e-scooter was pronounced dead at the scene. A second teenage boy, who was also on the e-scooter, was taken to Waterford University Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the bus was uninjured. There were no passengers on the bus at the time of the collision.

The Cork Road is closed from the South East Technological University to the Ring Road for a technical examination of the scene and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses, particularly any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the Cork Road in Waterford city between 12.45am and 1.15am, to contact Waterford Garda Station on 051 305300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
