Ten arrests made at Epsom Derby with 15-year-old boy among those cuffed by cops
TEN people were arrested at the Epsom Derby Festival – with a 15-year-old boy among those cuffed by police.
One person has since been charged after eight men and two boys were arrested over the two-day Flat racing bonanza.
King Charles and Queen Camilla were among the guests of honour last Friday to see their horse Treasure run in the Oaks.
And a total of 36,000 punters made their way to the Surrey racecourse over Friday and Saturday – though it was not without incident.
Offences included drunk and disorderly, affray, assault on emergency workers, possession of Class A drugs and sexual assault.
A 65-year-old man was among the men from London, Surrey and East Sussex arrested, according to the BBC.
Surrey Police said a number of ‘specialist teams’ were deployed in the huge operation, which last year failed to prevent activists storming the track.
Chief Superintendent Graham Barnett said: “This marked our 25th year policing The Derby at Epsom Downs, and I’m pleased to say that the work of each officer and member of staff involved helped to achieve this and keep everyone safe, including His Majesty King Charles III and Her Majesty Queen Camilla when they attended on Ladies Day.
“No two years at the event are the same, but every year, our teams work tirelessly to make sure that we are preventing and responding to crime and anti-social behaviour.
“We work closely with the event organisers and our partner agencies to ensure that everyone is able to enjoy the event safely.

“I am very proud of, and would like to thank, every officer, member of staff, and volunteer involved in this event for the work they did to help protect the public.
“I would also like to thank everyone who attended the event for enjoying it safely and the local community for their understanding and patience whilst we were policing The Derby at Epsom Downs.”
Violence broke out at the track last year when a massive fight erupted among racegoers.
Aidan O’Brien’s City Of Troy was the star of the show this year, winning the Derby in emphatic fashion amid loose horse drama.
