Tennis, WTA – Makarska Open 2024: Sherif defeats Martic

Egyptian Mayar Sherif, the second seed, advanced to the final of the Makarska Open by edging out Croat Petra Martic, the No 5 seed, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 on Saturday evening.

Sherif, ranked No 53, will face American Katie Volynets, the No 8 seed, next.

Earlier in the tournament, the Egyptian won against Latvian Darja Semenistaja (6-1, 6-3), Russian qualifier Maria Timofeeva (6-2, 3-6, 7-5) and Japanese Nao Hibino, the No 7 seed (6-1, 6-3).

Martic, ranked No 81, defeated wildcard Petra Marcinko (6-4, 6-4), Lea Boskovic (7-6 (6), 6-4) and Australian qualifier Maya Joint (6-4, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (3)) in the previous rounds.
