Tennis, WTA – Roland-Garros 2024: Paolini upends Rybakina
Italian Jasmine Paolini, the No 12 seed, reached the last 4 of Roland-Garros by edging out Kazakh Elena Rybakina, the No 4 seed, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 at Roland-Garros in Paris on Wednesday.
Paolini, ranked No 15, will face the winner of the match between Russian Mirra Andreeva and Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the second seed, next.
The Italian won against Australian Daria Saville (6-3, 6-4), American lucky loser Hailey Baptiste (6-4, 7-6 (6)), Canadian Bianca Andreescu (6-1, 3-6, 6-0) and Russian Elina Avanesyan (4-6, 6-0, 6-1) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds, Rybakina, ranked No 4, beat Belgian Greet Minnen (6-2, 6-3), Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus (6-3, 6-4), Belgian Elise Mertens, the No 25 seed (6-4, 6-2) and Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, the No 15 seed (6-4, 6-3).
