Tesco shoppers rush to buy Christmas favourite already in stores

TESCO is already stocking up on Christmas treats and shoppers are rushing to snap them up as end-of-term gifts.

Containers of a popular chocolate pick were spotted piling up in a Tesco in Suffolk – and despite it being only July, customers are keen to grab them.

Tesco have brought in a chocolate tub favourite in time for end of term
This tower of Quality Street tubs was spotted in one of the supermarket chain’s stores

Quality Street chocolate tubs, made to be perfect for sharing at Christmas, were snapped in the supermarket’s Newmarket branch stacked on a wooden pallet.

Although it’s far from time to hang the stockings up, one shopper pointed out they’re perfect for end of school year.

Commenting on a Facebook post, the buyer said: “Quality Street are for end of year teacher gifts.”

It’s now only three weeks until students wrap up the year so it could be perfect timing to spoil favourite teachers.

Another shopper didn’t care about the time of year.

They said: “Quality Street are for life, not just Christmas.”

A third added: “It’ll be for parents to give to their children’s teachers in July.”

The 600g tub is an assortment of milk and dark chocolates and toffees, manufactured by Nestle.

They contain 471 calories per 100g – or 89 calories for two of the sweets.

Tesco are putting them on the shelves for £6, although Clubcard members can get them for £5.40.

The Asda website lists the same tub for £5.50.

Sainsbury’s has a smaller 220g box of the sweets for £3.75.

They are otherwise difficult to find at this time of year.

Chocolate fans can order four 650g tubs on Amazon for £44.99, but buying in bulk doesn’t bring the price down in this instance – that’s a far dearer £11.25 per container.

How does Tesco’s Clubcard scheme work?

James Flanders, chief consumer reporter

TESCO’S Clubcard scheme allows shoppers to earn points as they shop, these points can then be turned into vouchers for money off food or other reward partner schemes.

When you spend £1 in-store or online, you get one point when you scan your card or app.

Drivers using Clubcards now get one point for every two litres spent on fuel.

One point equals 1p, so 150 points gets you £1.50, for example.

You’ll need a minimum of 150 points to request a voucher.

These vouchers can either be worth the face value to spend in-store at Tesco, or you can double their worth to spend at reward partners, including restaurants, and on days out.

Loyalty card holders can also get cheaper prices on over 8,000 items thanks to Clubcard Prices.

These Clubcard prices save the average member £351 on their annual shop, according to Tesco.

At £5.40 per tub for Clubcard members, it appears Tesco is the cheapest option for the chocolates right now
