The all-inclusive holiday is back but is it good value? How to decode the small print and find the best for you

Once they were derided as the poor, uncultured relative of the holiday industry, ridiculed for families queuing up to ­consume as much as possible at the 24-hour buffet, leaving only to squabble over deckchairs and occasionally harass staff while gesticulating wildly at their ­wristbands.

Now, though, the all-inclusive holiday is enjoying a renaissance, buoyed by a ­greater span of offerings, and dining ­options beyond the buffet. According to figures published by The Times last month, the all-inclusive market was set to reach almost 50pc of all summer holiday bookings in the UK this year.
